Our Mission

 

The Future Mental Health Professionals (FMHP) CTSO is dedicated to preparing high school students (grades 7-12) for careers in mental health, counseling, psychology, and human services. Our mission is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to make a difference in their communities while advocating for mental health awareness and support.

Our Goals

- Inspire students to pursue careers in mental health and behavioral sciences.

- Provide hands-on training and certifications in crisis intervention, peer support, and trauma-informed care.

- Develop student leadership through real-world advocacy and professional networking.

- Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma through student-led projects.

- Prepare students for college programs and careers in counseling, social work, psychology, and related fields.

Students participating in FMHP can explore diverse mental health career paths, including:

- Counseling & Therapy (Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist)

- Psychology & Research (Clinical Psychologist, Behavioral Health Researcher)

- Social Work & Human Services (School Social Worker, Child & Family Advocate)

- Behavioral Health & Crisis Support (Substance Abuse Counselor, Crisis Intervention Specialist)

- School & Community Mental Health (School Counselor, Community Mental Health Coordinator)

 

Certifications & Training

 

FMHP students will have the opportunity to earn valuable certifications that will prepare them for future careers, including:

- Mental Health First Aid Certification

- Peer Support Specialist Basics

- Crisis Intervention Training

- Trauma-Informed Care Training

- Youth Suicide Prevention & Awareness Certification

 

Student Leadership & Projects

 

FMHP members take part in meaningful projects and competitions to develop hands-on skills and leadership abilities:

- Mental Health Awareness Campaigns: Develop and lead initiatives to reduce stigma in schools.

- Community Mental Health Projects: Partner with local organizations to support underserved populations.

- Case Study Competitions: Analyze real-world mental health cases and present solutions.

- Therapeutic Communication Challenge: Practice skills in active listening, de-escalation, and empathy.

- Mental Health Innovation Project: Create new tools, apps, or programs to improve community mental health resources.
